  • Access.ca
    Access is part of the Historica site and introduces a new way to find lesson plans, articles, visual/multimedia resources to support social studies teachers in all parts of Canada.
  • BC150 Resources - Ministry of Education
    This site provides social studies and drama resources for use by classroom teachers and students.
  • BC150 Years
    BC150 Years is the official Province of BC site on community celebrations and projects to mark 150 years of BC.
  • BC Archives
    The BC Archives provides research access to records such as government documents and records; private historical manuscripts and papers; maps, charts and architectural plans; photographs; audio and video tapes; film; newspapers; and a library of publications with a strong emphasis on the social and political history of BC and the Pacific Northwest.
  • BC Heritage Digital Collections
    Assembled by the British Columbia Heritage Branch, Ministry of Tourism, Sport and the Arts, this site describes and links to "A collection of British Columbia Heritage resources useful to teachers, students, and history enthusiasts of any age."
  • BC History Digital Collections (UBC Library)
    Organized by media and highlight virtual exhibits, this inventory contains about 100 examples from BC archives, libraries and museums.
  • BC The West Beyond The West
    BC: The West Beyond The West is search portal to BC-related digitized cultural heritage content developed in concert with AlouetteCanada Open Digitization Initiative.
  • British Columbia Archives, Royal BC Museum
    In addition to one of the largest public collection of digitized photographs and artworks from a single Canadian archives, the BC Archives also has an online exhibit called The Amazing Machine designed for K-12 students.
  • British Columbia Heritage On-Line
    BC Heritage On-Line and bcheritage.com offers a gateway of information to British Columbia. BCHeritage.com is the foremost authority on BC Art Galleries and Museums, First Nations History On-Line, Heritage and History On-Line, Canadian History, Heritage sites, Women's History, HerHeritage.com, BC Archives, Emily Carr, and the Cariboo Gold Rush.
  • British Columbia History Internet
    The British Columbia History Internet tracks Internet and WWW resources for the study of BC's history. The compilation is intended to be as comprehensive and broad as possible.
  • Black History Canada (Historica Foundation)
    From the organization that sponsors the Canadian Encyclopedia Online, this site features a thematic guide to the Black experience in Canada, and includes teaching resources.
  • British Columbia Archival Information Network (BCAIN)
    This gateway site, operated by the Archives Association of BC, links to a database describing archival records at publicly accessible institutions around the province, along with a directory of archives and museum-archives in BC, virtual exhibits and historic photographs databases and online galleries. BCAIN is one of the 13 provincial/territorial archival networks that make up Archives Canada, the Canadian Archival Information Network
  • British Columbia History Portal
    Created and maintained by archivist and historian David Mattison as an annotated, subject guide to Web resources on BC history, this site is a successor to his British Columbia History Internet/Web Site, which he started in 1995. An advanced search lets you query by grade level.
  • Canada in the Making (Early Canadiana Online)
    This site utilizes digitized government publications and documents to explore three key themes in Canada's development: constitutional history, aboriginal treaties and relations, and immigration. Includes a teachers' resources section.
  • Canada's Digital Collections (Library and Archives Canada)
    Funded and hosted by Industry Canada between 1996-2004, all of these digital collections, many specifically designed with an educational component, were archived for public access by the Library and Archives Canada. You can search for individual collections through AMICUS, the library's catalogue, or through its Electronic Collection search page.
  • Canada's Historic Places
    A federal-provincial-territorial collaboration to document examples of heritage structures and sites through a detailed, illustrated database. There are over a thousand examples from British Columbia alone.
  • Canadian Encyclopedia Online
    This remarkable Web site started out in print form as the Canadian Encyclopedia in 1985, and also includes the Youth Encyclopedia of Canada, originally published as The Junior Encyclopedia of Canada in 1991, the second edition of the Encyclopedia of Music in Canada (1992), and selected articles from Maclean's magazine since 1995. Many interactive resources also help make this more than just an encyclopedia.
  • Canadian Historical Association Booklets (CHA and Library and Archives Canada)
    These booklets by Canadian historians cover a wide range of topics, including various ethnic groups, and were written expressly for the general public.
  • CBC Archives
    If you're looking for digitized radio and TV clips dating back to the 1920s, there's no better source than the CBC Archives. The clips are supported by a section "For Teachers" with activities for students between grades 6 and 12.
  • Early Canadiana Online
    Formerly known as the Canadian Institute for Historical Microreproductions (CIHM), this keyword-searchable digital collection of over 24,600 publications is partially open for full public access, with other parts only available through an annual subscription. A series of lesson plans are available, along with two thematic sites, Canada in the Making and Exploration, the Fur Trade and Hudson's Bay Company.
  • Encyclopedia of British Columbia
    First published in 2000, the online version includes a special essay by editor Daniel Francis called Far West: A History of BC for Young Readers.
  • First Nations History Theme Page
    First Nations History Theme Page has links to curricular resources (information, content, etc.) to help students/teachers learn about the History of First Nations People.
  • Great Unsolved Mysteries in Canadian History Mystery Quests
    Linking to famous, unsolved mysteries from across Canada, including three in BC (as of 2007), this site helps teachers locate the most age-appropriate mystery in the main Great Unsolved Mysteries in Canadian History site.
  • Historica
    Historica is a site about Canadian history, and therefore, history of the provinces, including BC. Includes links to sites such as FYI Canada, Encounters with Canada, Historica Fairs, Professional Development, History by the Minute, Then Canadian Encyclopedia, etc.
  • Homeroom, British Columbia's History of Education Web Site
    Created and edited by Dr. Patrick A. Dunae as a resource for history of education students, this site documents many fascinating aspects of BC's public and private education system over the past 150 years.
  • Images Canada (Library and Archives Canada)
    This site, the single largest collection of digitized historic Canadian photographs and artwork, provides one-stop access to this content from public, private and educational partners. You'll find some educational resources here, as well as photo essays and "image trails."
  • Library and Archives Canada
    Many of the virtual exhibits and digital collections contain BC content and are often supplemented by educational resources or special sites designed for children. There is also a central Learning Centre.
  • Living Landscapes (Royal BC Museum)
    The Living Landscapes project was an outreach program involving human and natural history elements from five distinctive BC regions.
  • Make History on the Web!
    A companion to The Homeroom: British Columbia's History of Education Web Site, you can learn how to research the history of a school.
  • Multicultural Canada
    Led by Simon Fraser University, a cross-Canada partnership of multicultural societies, along with academic and public libraries, are building a searchable digital collection of multicultural newspapers, local histories, speeches, photographs, letters and oral histories.
  • Museums, Art Galleries & Related Institutions in BC
    Created by the BC Museums Association, this database will help you locate the hundreds of museums and art galleries throughout the province.
  • Our Roots: Canada's Local Histories Online
    There are close to 300 historical books and brochures about British Columbia in this digital collection. Many of the texts were drawn from the non-digitized content of Early Canadiana Online (formerly the Canadian Institute for Historical Microreproductions).
  • This Week in History (Parks Canada)
    Many of these illustrated capsule histories pertain to historic events in British Columbia.
  • Yin & Yang: Chinatown Past & Present
    Created by the Knowledge Network to support its documentary Yin & Yang: Chinatown Today, you'll find video samples and teachers resources.
  • Vancouver Island History
    Created by Dr. Patrick A. Dunae, this site contains several census databases, and digitized historic maps.
  • Victoria's Victoria
    A joint project of Dr. John Lutz at the University of Victoria and Dr. Patrick A. Dunae at Malaspina University College, this site contains many illustrated essays by students of those two institutions, along with an index to selected Victoria newspapers (1858-1921).
  • Virtual Museum of Canada
    The VMC is stocked with over 500 virtual and community-based historic exhibits, over 420,000 categorized, searchable images, all supported by a Teachers' Centre.
